We run fun and vibrant classes in Dance, Gymnastics and Performing Arts.

All our classes are taught by qualified and experienced teachers.

Ruth Dodds

Director and Teacher of Dance, Gymnastics and Performing Arts.

Mrs Dodds is an Alumni of Harrogate Ladies’ College. Upon leaving school she won a place at Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts, where she completed a Diploma in Musical Theatre. She went on to complete a BA (Hons) Dance Performance at Middlesex University Dance and then a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) with Qualified Teacher Status at RAD the Royal Academy of Dance, London.

She has been teaching for over 15 years as Performing Arts Specialist in London and North Yorkshire schools. As well as this she is an experienced Trainer, Moderator & Examiner.

Mrs Dodds has completed further training with British Gymnastics and teaches Gymnastics lessons in school alongside Dance.

Dance for Performance

This is an upbeat and energetic class that focuses on improving physical, technical, performance and choreographic skills.

Classes are an eclectic mix of styles and incorporate Lyrical, Contemporary, Jazz / Theatre Dance and Street Dance.

The class works towards at least one Dance performance during the academic year.

These classes can be tailored to work towards a themed assembly in school, if required.

A Dance uniform is required for this Class.



A Recreational style Gymnastics class, where pupils have the opportunity to work towards The British Gymnastics ‘Rise’ Certificates in Core Skills, Apparatus and Working Together.

Within the lessons pupils will develop skills such as flexibility, co-ordination, strength and balance as well as having the opportunity to develop Gymnastic floor routines, using the skills learned as part of the Rise Certificate Programme.

A Gymnastics uniform is required for this Class.



A fun and challenging class following the RAD Syllabus. These lessons will introduce learners to the fundamentals of Ballet Dance technique. Pupils will develop their knowledge and understanding of the dance style learning key terminology alongside developing their performance skills, self-confidence, sense of musicality, posture, alignment, and self-confidence.

A Ballet uniform is required for this Class.

Mrs Louise Woodward
Mrs Louise Woodward

Mrs Woodward has been teaching Drama and the Performing Arts for over 22 years. Having trained in Musical Theatre at the Studio Herman Tierlink in Antwerp, Belgium she went on to teach Performing Arts at the Antwerp International School and in 2007 left Belgium to become the Director of Creative Arts and Outreach at Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate.

Louise is currently Assistant Headteacher and Head of Drama at Bedale High School where she has been for the past three years.

Throughout her career in education, Louise has directed and produced numerous full-scale productions both within the primary and secondary sectors. She is particularly passionate about musical theater and enabling young people to produce high quality, believable drama through creative play and challenging, intensive practical workshops.

Mrs Jessica Viner
Mrs Jessica Viner

Mrs Viner is an OFFIE-nominated musical director, pianist and viola player working across Yorkshire and beyond. Her recent MD credits include Call Me Madam (London) and Kinky Boots (York), in 2015 she was awarded ‘Best Musical Director’ for Princess Ida at the Harrogate International G&S Festival (Unifest). She has recently played keyboards for Singing in the Rain (National Tour), Jerry Springer the Opera (Manchester), Guys and Dolls (Sheffield) and Evita (York Theatre Royal).

Miss Mead
Miss Mead

Miss Mead studied at Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where she completed a BMus (Hons) degree in Singing. Since graduating, she has taught singing to all age groups delivering group and one-to-one lessons in schools, music education hubs and musical theatre courses around London, Manchester and Leeds. She had an exciting performing career, regularly performing with her female barbershop quartet alongside some of Britain’s leading Jazz artists including Cleo Laine and Ian Shaw.

She has performed in some of London’s top music venues such as the Barbican, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club and The Vortex. Miss Mead is a passionate teacher and has recently gained a Qualified Teacher Status with Red Kite Teacher Training and a PGCE with the University of Leeds.

Mr Houghton
Mr Houghton

MA in Acting from Drama Centre: UAL.
BA in English Literature from Newcastle University.

Mr Houghton has a wealth of experience teaching in UK and South America, and has run group drama sessions, as well as individual mentoring sessions, for youth audition preparation in London.

As a two-time survivor of the Edinburgh Fringe, having directed and performed there in 2011 and 2014, he loves everything Shakespeare and theatre; especially relishing the challenge of getting every child speaking confidently through the bard’s verse and poetry.

He is currently training to become a primary school teacher with the Red Kite Teacher Alliance, and volunteers at Kairos Church with both toddler and youth groups. When not busy with his two daughters, 5 and 3, he enjoys singing with Harrogate Choral Society as a tenor and walking his excitable Labrador Lyra.
